STOP PLAYING TO THE GALLERY BY DOWNSIZING MINISTRIES; NANS TELLS GOVERNORS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B has warned State Governors not to play to the gallery in the name of downsizing State ministries. Declaring that the ongoing downsizing of State ministry by some State Governors, notably Kano, Kaduna and Oyo has been observed by the student community to be a mere playing to the gallery, noting that state policies should not be construed with the intent of clapping of hands by sycophant few.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the student body; Pedro Obi, the statement pointed out that in as much as we believe there is need to cut the cost of running government, playing to the gallery will not be condoned by the Nigerian Students as we are more than ever ready to wipe any State Government into line in the overall interest of the entire Nigerian masses.

Governance is a serious business and therefore should not be sacrificed on the alter of frivolities.

Downsizing State ministry and at the same time encouraging over inflation of contracts and massively funding Office of the First Lady through the back door, an office that is unconstitutional is a clear case of hypocrisy.

In cutting the cost of governance the issue of inflation of contracts should even first be genuinely addressed. Most State Governors has flagrantly abused the Public Procurement Act in the award of contracts and we believe any Governor that intends to cut cost should first address this issue instead of playing to the gallery, the statement added.
