A government investigation has uncovered the irregular acquisition of land at the Nigerian Law School’s Lagos Campus, raising serious concerns about the loss of public property and uncollected rental income.

The findings, contained in a recent review of the Council’s activities, revealed that two buildings on the Law School’s Lagos Campus premises were claimed to belong to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). However, no evidence was produced to show a formal transfer of ownership or any record of rental income that the Council might be owed for the underlying land.

The review cited provisions of the Public Procurement Act, which require an independent valuation before any disposal of public property. Investigators noted that this requirement was not followed, creating a risk of losing government assets and revenue.

In response, management of the Nigerian Law School stated that the land in question is a government asset and that the issue involves two government-linked bodies the Law School and the NBA.

Management said it is engaging the NBA to find a legitimate and amicable resolution grounded in Nigerian law, aiming to avoid a dispute or court proceedings.
