Peter Pereotubo Akpe was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State on February 25, 2026, following the death of his predecessor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The office he inherited carries N3,046,918,243.25 in the 2026 budget, of which N3,000,000,000 is overhead. Personnel cost for the entire office is N46.92 million. Capital expenditure is zero.
The office has no capital programme of any kind in the budget. In the first six months of 2026, spending records examined by SecretsReporters show the office released N776,784,778.96, which is 25.5 percent of its annual total, and N748,234,376.96 of that amount moved through overhead.
At the top of the approved figures sit two items of N1 billion each. Local travel and transport (others) takes N1 billion. Security services take another N1 billion. International travel and transport (training) takes a further N300 million, which brings travel alone to N2.3 billion, about three quarters of the entire budget of the office. The 2026 budget was signed in December 2025, before Akpe took the seat, so the figures were approved for the office itself.
Honorarium and sitting allowance takes N200 million. Government strategic activity takes N200 million. Welfare packages take N165 million. Refreshment and meals take N20 million. The four items together come to N585 million approved for sitting allowances, strategic activities, welfare and meals in an office with no capital spending. Medical expenses take N5 million locally and N5 million internationally. The state records carry a separate statewide provision of N649.5 million for foreign medical treatment, with N165.23 million released in the first half of 2026.
What the records do not show is how the money released in the first half of the year was shared among the approved items. The quarterly spending records publish releases at the level of the office and the economic category only. How much of the local travel approval has been drawn, and how much of the security services approval has been drawn, is not stated anywhere in the records.
