The King of Idjerhe Kingdom in Delta State, His Majesty, Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, Udurhie 1, has been ceremoniously bestowed with the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy in Mass Communication at the reputable Delta State University.

The conferment took place during the 16th Convocation of the renowned Delta State University on an august occasion, held in the presence of esteemed dignitaries and luminaries from all walks of life.

Gracing the event with their august presence was the Executive Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who offered his felicitations to King Whiskey on this momentous achievement. Joining him were illustrious traditional rulers, including the revered Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and the King of Agbor Kingdom, underscoring the significance of King Whiskey’s academic accolade within the royal fraternity.

In a show of solidarity and camaraderie, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, and a retinue of government functionaries were also in attendance, lending their support to King Whiskey on his auspicious day.

It is germane to state that the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, in his speech, said that 4,776 students graduated from the 2022/2023 academic session, with 730 postgraduate degrees, comprising 99 Doctor of Philosophy, 522 Masters Degrees, and 109 Postgraduate Diplomas.

According to him, the graduands include a total of 3,611 first degrees, comprising 54 first class, 1,207 second class honours (upper division), 380 second class honours (lower division), and 380 third class honours.

During the resplendent ceremony, the state’s governor offered automatic employment to the overall best graduating student of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Ilebe Joshua of the Faculty of Pharmacy, with a 4.83 CGPA.
