The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, is dead.
Abba Kyari died of coronavirus few weeks after he tested positive on his return from an official visit to Germany in early March.
His death was announced by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, in a Tweet early on Saturday.
“Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon,” Mr Adesina tweeted.
A number of top Nigerian politicians, including three governors who met Kyari after his return from Germany, also tested positive.
Among them were Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and Seyi Makinde of Oyo state. Both have since recovered.
