FOR MANDELA, ITSEKIRI SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVIST KEEP WARRI CLEAN

Ugbuwangue market women and tricycle riders in Warri joined the rest of the world penultimate weekend to celebrate 2015 Mandela Day with a special clean up tagged “SWEEP FOR MADIBA”.

The event was the maiden edition of NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL DAY organized by Concerned Itsekiri Social Media Activists(CISMA) in collaboration with Warri based OAP and jazz music promoter, Omatseye Atsenuwa of DBS Warri to mark the 97th birthday of foremost apartheid icon and ex- South African President, Nelson Mandela.

The clean-up began from the market area, to the main entrance of Ugbuwangue community, the tricycle park and the newly constructed pedestrian bridge.

The United Nations, UN since November 2009 set aside July 18 every year as Mandela’s Birthday.

In a welcome address, Coordinator of the group, Prince Onesan Oritseweyinmi Jerry called on elected and appointed officials of the Delta State government residing in Ugbuwangue to facilitate the completion of the pedestrian bridge at Ugbuwangue as well as the market built in the community to enable traders do business within the market premises instead of displaying their wares along the road.

He said, “we wish to appeal to the member representing Warri Federal Constituencey at the National Assembly, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, Hon. Daniel Mayuku, Hon. Godwin Abigor, the Delta State Commissioner of Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan, Political Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Omimi Esquire, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Mofe Edema and others to kindly facilitate the installation of Hand rails at the top of the bridge and other finishing touches before commissioning the pedestrian bridge”, adding that, “efforts should be made to facilitate the completion and usage of the Ugbuwangue Market as it is fast becoming an eye saw”.

Also speaking, the Director of Publicity of CISMA, Mr. Gedu Godwin Toju thanked all those participated in the clean-up exercise and called on people of Ugbuwangue community to
reciprocate the kind gesture of the Delta State Government by taking ownership and encouraging usage of the pedestrian bridge.

He said, “CISMA is deeply pained to see students and other pedestrians dashing to cross the ever busy road, risking their lives when a simple stroll on the bridge will take them across.
