UNICAL SUG Presents 2015 Expenditure Plan, Budgets N65,000 Monthly For DSTV Subscription

The students union government executive of the University of Calabar, led by the President, Mr.Ajang Emmanuel has presented the 2014 SUG budget to the SUG Senate.

The budget tagged BUDGET OF DEVELOPMENT has a total of over 53 million naira.

Capital projects in the expenditure plan will gulf a paltry 5million naira while the recurrent expenditure has over 45million naira.
Meanwhile,over 3million naira has been budgeted for the students week.

One of the budget head staring controversy is the 65,000 naira budgeted for the monthly DSTV subscription, against the 12,000 which is the most expensive bouquet on the service.

Reacting to the budget,one of the Senators told CrossRiverWatch that he was suprised at the exorbitant prices recorded in the budget.
According to him, an example is a cost of broom and detergent which 100,000 has been budgeted for.

Meanwhile one of the aide of the SUG Presidential who spoke on the budget attributed the high figures in the budget to the cùrrent economic realities.

After much scrutiny and delibration, the Senate President of the Union, Senator Iwasam Joshua asked the Senate Committee on Finance to go and look into the details of the budget and present their recommendations to plenary.
