Exhibiting what can be described as a nonchalance character, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu has failed to account for a missing N3,387,139 (Three Million, Three Hundred and Eighty-Seven Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty-Nine Naira) as the management of the hospital according to reports have turned a blind eye to the loss.
SecretReporters uncovered from a 2018 Audit report that, after the loss of the jaw-dropping N3,387,139 Million by an officer of the hospital, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital’s management failed to issue an official statement as required on how the money was lost; neither did they make attempt to recover the said amount nor report the loss to the appropriate government committee.
The failure of the Hospital’s management to take the necessary action after a cumbersome amount went missing, according to sources, is not be far-fetched from how the hospital is being managed which might have given room for theft and laundering of funds as some of the hospital’s employees have already been dragged to court over alleged fraud and corruption.
The then Medical Director Dr. Jojo Onwukwe, we learned had earlier been arrested and taken to court by the Police over allegation of corruption. Another staff, his secretary, Mrs. Stella Achara was also dragged to court for allegedly duping a job seeker to the tune of N14 Million.
There are calls to relevant agencies to quickly investigate the matter as the Hospital’s management and mechanisms for internal control may have become weak thus giving room for a field day of abuse of procedures.
