Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has dumped Dr Sarah Alade as the newly appointed Acting Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor for one of his alleged close pals, Godwin Emefiele, who is the Managing Director of Zenith Bank.
Mr Jonathan submitted his name to the Senate on Thursday for confirmation, and it’s expected that it will be approved for him to take over the job of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was suspended this morning due to what he called financial recklessness.
Sanusi who was suspended is systematically sacked, as Godwin will be in the saddle while he faces investigation, which might get him imprisoned if found guilty. The former governor was away attending a 3 days West African Central Bank Governors when his suspension was announced via the twitter handle of the President’s Media Adviser, Reuben Abati.
Adelabu Adebayo, another top banker with First bank was also nominated by the President as the CBN deputy governor.
Godwin holds a BSc and an MBA in Finance from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and is an alumnus of Stanford University, Harvard and Wharton Graduate Schools of Business. Before commencing his banking career over 23 years ago, he lectured Finance, Bank Management, and Insurance at the University of Nigeria and University of Port Harcourt.
