There are confirmed reports that the Delta State Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr.Chinedu Ebie has insisted that teachers in the state must pay N120,000 for a laptop.
Some of the teachers who spoke with our Reporter in the state lamented that,” the government cannot boast of paying salaries to her workers as at when due, yet still have the impudence, the temerity, the boldness and courage to come up with a strategy to suck those they have been killing slowly on a daily basis.”
Some aggrieved teachers also questioned the directive from the Commissioner, saying that the government cannot pay the same teachers their arrears and even their January salary which they have sincerely worked for, yet initiate this type of policy that from hence forth all primary school teachers must be computer literate and they are to purchase computer system from the state government which will cost N120,000.
“This particular amount can buy up to 4 different computers (Desk Top) in Sapele and can likewise buy up to 2 brand new laptops with some fraction of amount still remaining said a source.
The laptop Ebie wants to forcefully sell to the teachers is sold for N60,000.Even teachers who already have laptops are forced to buy another one from him, who will make over N150 million as profit. Chinedu Ebie has also been accused of tribalism by some teachers in the state, since after the Supreme Court verdict that gave Okowa victory.
There are plans by the government to sack some teachers on the grounds that they are now too old for the teaching profession, which we gathered is a suggestion of the commissioner.
It is alleged that the state education sector has been turned to an Anioma affair, because plans are underway to have more of Aniocha Speaking teachers this year.
Ebie is known to engage in fraudulent ventures as he was supposed to have been jailed alongside James Ibori for helping to loot and launder state funds for the former governor, but high powered maneuvering removed his name, a report under investigation by Secret Reporters
