The Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) has called on the police to make sure that information reaching the leadership of UPU is that Mr Ken Efemena Umukoro, a.k.a Akima who has been arrested and detained at the police does not die in their detention.
According to a statement signed by the body’s Natioanl Publicity Secretary, Chief Duncan Ewhere, Akima has fallen critically Ill, and the police authority denied him the opportunity to have his medication.
“We call on the police authority to make sure that nothing ever happens to this young man. If there is any trace of crime(s) committed by him, he should be charged to court, or be released immediately”, the Urhobo apex body stated.
UPU maintained that “the police authority should not be cowed to believe that this young man had committed any crime when there is no evidence of any crime committed”.
Akima was forcefully arrested by the Nigerian Police in Asaba on the orders of the lawmaker representing Ethiope East in Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Evance Iwurie, for demanding good governance from him to his constituents, an action the first timer legislator found demeaning.
