The Special Adviser on Students’ matters to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Comrade Vwegba has finally succeeded in tearing the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)/JCC apart during the convention that held on Saturday in Delta State University (DELSU), Oleh Campus.
According to our various sources who monitored the event, the choice candidate, Rt. Hon. Ogheneovo John Akpobor, a former Speaker of DELSU Student Union Government (SUG) was disqualified on unconstitutional ground, while Comrade Ogbe Collins, the former SUG President of College of Education, Warri was disqualified on the basis that he had wanted to run for the Secretary but later changed his mind for the Chairmanship, while Ogoro Solomon, a former rusticated student of DELSU was declared unopposed as the winner, as we had earlier reported on the plans of the governor’s S.A to impose him.
The convention which started at about 4.45pm with accreditation of thirteen SUG Presidents saw factions immediately declared when Ogoro was announced, while the various Senators who attended left the venue before the declaration in protest of what they foresaw. In protest of the announcement of Ogoro, John and Collins declared themselves as the authentic Chairmen. We gathered that Ogoro was imposed by the governor’s aide who allegedly claimed that he has been mandated by the Delta State Deputy Governor, Amos Utuama to deliver him despite all oppositions by the Senators.
A Senator from Delta State we gathered is behind Ogbe Collins, who intend to have him galvanize the students for his next electoral bid. Authentic information also available to us reveals that John has five Senators standing behind him, while Solomon and Collins have four each.
Other persons elected during the convention are: Comr Onos Onovwosikpe as the secretary General, Ogbecie Collins as the Financial Secretary. The PRO is Akpologun Larry while Tenyor as the assistant Secretary General. Ironically, the elected excos have pledged thei loyalty to work with John as their authentic Chairman of NANS/JCC
