Treasury Recycling: Power Drunk Senator Adamu Aliero Leverages on Political Might To Hijack Contracts Worth Over N500 Million For His Son, Mustapha Adamu and Wife Aisha Dangiwa Umar

Incriminating data have revealed how a former two-term Governor of Kebbi State who currently serves as the Senator Representing Kebbi Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Adamu Aliero has been leveraging on his political powers to influence contracts to his son, Mustapha Adamu. 

Investigations by this online media have shown that since at least 2019 when President Mahummadu Buhari was in office to the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mustapha Adamu and his wife, Aisha Dangiwa Umar, daughter of former Kaduna Military governor, Dangiwa Umar have benefited over five hundred million Naira from the federal coffers. 

According to Govspend.ng, a visual platform launched by BudgIT to provide daily government spending in a simplified way, Mustapha Adamu and his wife Aisha, through their company, Puranova Nig Ltd have received ₦501,310,186.62 in series of transactions.  

SecretsReporters gathered that since Tinubu rose to power on the mantra of “Renewed Hope” which many Nigerians have dubbed “Renewed Shege,” Mustapha  and Aisha have pocketed N254,772,557.59 from coffers of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Commission, Energy Commission of Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Health being payments for series of contracts for their Abuja based company, Puranova Nig Ltd. 

For instance, on 31st May 2024, the Universal Basic Education (Ube) Commission transferred ₦166,648,311.63 to Puranova Nig Ltd for the “Construction of ubec junior secondary/vocational school with borehole, furnishing and provision of phone repairs and electrical wiring equipment in gds bagudo, Kebbi State”. 

On 1st March 2024, the sum of ₦70,146,710.38 left the treasury of the commission to Puranova Nig Ltd.’s account for the “Construction of ubec junior secondary/vocational school with borehole, furnishing and provision of phone repairs and electrical wiring equipment”.

We gathered that on 29th December 2023 Universal Basic Education (Ube) Commission paid ₦17,977,535.58 into the account of Mustapha’s Puranova for the “Construction of ubec junior secondary/vocational school with borehole, furnishing and provision of phone repairs and electrical wiring equipment”.

In could been that on the 24th of March 2023 when Buhari was still in office, the Energy Commission of Nigeria transferred the sum of ₦12,776,971.00 to Puranova Nig Ltd as “Payment iro 8nos. solar boreholes wrks at katsina state -2”. 

On 31st December 2022, Puranova nig ltd received the sum of ₦17,040,500.00 from the Federal Ministry of Health “Being payment in favour of m/s puranova nig ltd for the equipping of phase 1 and pashe 2 staff clinic in ministry of health hqtrs”.

This online media further gathered that the account of Puranova leaped for joy on the 28 of December 2022 following a credit alert of ₦40,614,316.88 it received Universal Basic Education (Ube) Commission being payment for the “Provision of customized instructional materials, play equipment to Makera primary school, Makera, Dutsinma LGA and Aisha Indo Abdulkadir memorial girls secondary school, Kurfi, Katsina State”.

Our findings revealed that Puranova Nig Ltd was incorporated in Abuja, Nigeria with Registration Number 1341380. It was registered on 10th June 2016, and its current status is unknown. The company’s registered office address is No 5 Rio Negro Close Maitama. It could be recalled that Aisha and Mustapha got married in 2014. 

Section 9 of the code of conduct for public officers involved with procurement states; A Public Officer shall decline in serving in a procurement process if any of the Bidders or Service Providers engaged in the procurement proceedings is related to him by blood, marriage or grant relationship or where the success of a particular Bidder or Service Provider in the proceedings will confer a pecuniary or other advantage on him.
