POWER DRUNK: NSCDC COMMANDANT UYO DETAINS HER DEPUTY OVER HIS REFUSAL TO BE PARTY TO 10MILLION NAIRA FRAUD

Just when we thought we have seen the worst precedence in recent times in Nigeria, abuse of power was taken to another height at the Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Uyo last week with a showdown between top-ranking officials of the Corps.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity disclosed to SecretReporters that the state commandant, Commandant Obiageli Obiajulu in a power-drunk display forcefully detained a Deputy Commandant in the Corps cell on Friday, October 12, 2018. According to the witness, DC Akpan was at the headquarters to document his recent promotion, but unknown to him, armed personnel had been put on standby by “Lady Morgana” of Uyo command to effect his detention. The DC who objected to being detained as he had no foreknowledge of any offence he committed was roughly manhandled by junior operatives on the orders of the State Commandant, breaking his phone and wristwatch in the process before he was forcefully bundled into the cell meant for the Rank and file of the Corps.

The eyewitness further disclosed to our reporter that the Deputy Commandant accused the commandant of fighting him and subjecting him to such inhumane treatment for refusing to be party to a fraud which entails falsification and inflation of figures of a land gifted to NSCDC by Akwa Ibom State Government by almost 10million Naira.

Another officer our reporter spoke with displayed her displeasure, “I am surprised that a whole DC can be dragged like that openly and detained in a cell like a criminal. This is unheard of. The public service rule and other extant laws prescribe how to discipline erring senior officers” she lamented.

The Deputy Commandant was later released after some senior officers intervened and convinced the commandant of the irrationality of her decision. Meanwhile, SecretReporters can authoritatively report that the parties involved in the ugly showdown on Friday have been summoned to the National headquarters of the Corps in Abuja this week.

All efforts made to reach the Public Relations Officer of the command proved abortive as calls placed to his phone line were not answered as at the time of writing this report.
