In the fight against corruption and other socio-economic and political crimes, individuals and agencies that make or enforce laws must possess no record of wrongdoing, be it from the past or present. This is so to avoid abuse of office which in recent times has become the norm, especially amongst Nigerian political office holders.
According to a knowledgeable source, if the anti-corruption crusade by President Buhari is anything to take home about then the serving Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District and Chairman, Kasmal Group of Companies, Senator Kashamu Burunji should be rotting away in prison custody as he appears to be nothing but a wolf in a sheep`s clothing after information has revealed that he is currently on the United States Narcotics Department wanted list for drug-related offences he committed in the past.
SecretReporters gathered that in the 80s Kashamu masquerading under the guise of running a car business registered with the name Kasmal Motors in Benin Republic and an auto company located along Allen Avenue Lagos with the name Jisnod Motors was said to have been involved in illicit drug trafficking business using Benin Republic as his safe haven.
His expertise in trafficking hard drugs undetected using his car business as a cover especially to America mainly Chicago earned him the nickname ‘Dangling Spider” with his web of connection enormous and mind-blowing. He in no time expanded his business network with aid from the Cali Cartel Drug Lords of Columbia who helped to provide him with narcotics worth billions of US dollars.
To maintain his safe haven which he used as a base and takeoff point for his nefarious activities Kashamu was said to have offered Daewoo Racer cars to each parliamentarian and each top government functionary in the Benin Republic as he was then the sole distributor of Daewoo products in West Africa. “He allegedly ‘bought’ the then government of Benin republic over to himself with cash sprees and car gifts and was even able to sponsor a Presidential candidate in one of the elections” squealed a source.
Luck we learnt ran out on him when the then government of General Muhammadu Buhari because of his drug-related activities confiscated all his vehicles and properties and declared him wanted. The heinous Senator was later arrested at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos sometime in 1985 for drug-related offences and detained in the Nigeria Customs Enforcement Headquarters at Ilipeju Obanikoro, Lagos but like the popular TV seasonal “Prison break”, Kashamu plotted and successfully executed an escape from the detention facility. He thereafter fled to the Benin Republic where he knew he would always be welcomed being a top financier of the government.
While in hiding as a fugitive in the Benin Republic the philanthropic Criminal was able to rebuild his network and continued in his illicit business. He returned to Nigeria after the military dispensation in a stealth mode and is currently a serving senator in the 8th assembly of the Nigeria Senate.
