The importance of setting rules and regulations in any institution of learning cannot be over emphasized as it has proven overtime to be one of the effective ways of curtailing the excesses and delinquencies of students as the popular saying goes; where there is no law, there is no sin. But when a law becomes preposterous then it calls for immediate amendment.
Information reaching SecertReporters reveal that the registrar of Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) recently released an internal memorandum stating the dress code for students. The memo sent out to all departments and unit in the school banned certain dresses most especially the wearing of “black tops” within the school premises as any student who defaults would be prohibited from entering lecture halls, theatres and laboratories and sanctioned appropriately.
The memo which was released on the 30th 0f October 2018 also listed the unacceptable dress codes for male and female students as Sleeveless Tops, Miniskirts, Torn Jean trousers, Black Tops, Bum Shorts, Saggy Trousers revealing their boxers or exposing their bodies and Dreadlock hairstyle.
This online medium further gathered that while some students and staff have greatly applauded the move by the registrar to bring some form of sanity to the institution as over the years the dressing pattern among students have really deteriorated with most of the students virtually attending classes nude, other students have begun raising questions as to the reason why putting on black tops to school is seen as an offence by the management seeing that it is not affiliated to any form of vice or negative influence.
There are also speculations within the student community that adhering to the new rule laid down by the registrar may not be much of a challenge for the larger student population, however obeying the “NO BLACK TOP” rule may result in a little strain between students and security operatives within the school premises.
